~* long airplane ride into the storm ~*

The flight from Orlando to Atlanta to Belize wasn’t so bad but there was a storm and we had to land in San Pedro, Honduras to refuel. I was a little scared but I knew it would work out.

I shared a taxi with a nice Canadian couple from the airport to the ferry and they told me all about the different Cayes. They said that Ambergis Key had all the resorts and night life and Caye Caulker had the laid back hippie stuff. My life had been go, go, go for so long, I knew I wanted to just sit and relax in Caye Caulker.

It was a $6 and 45 minute ferry from Belize City to Caye Caulker and by the time I got there, it was dark and raining. There aren’t any paved roads or street lights and it took me a while to find my hostel. The hostel looked like a shed and I couldn’t find the main check in so I found a hotel instead.

For dinner, I walked down a sandy path and found a$2.50 beer and the first of many $10 lobsters.

In the morning, I woke up at dawn and walked around. The entire island was still asleep! It was so peaceful having the beaches to myself. I took some work calls then found a beautiful hostel called Bella’s Backpackers and moved in.

My room was at the very top of the building and I had to climb two ladders to get to there. It felt like a treehouse!

I met another solo traveling female while eating my next lobster and we went for drinks at The Sip N Dip. I had to have just one strawberry daiquiri on the ocean swings then lay down in the ocean hammocks to watch the birds.

Sharks and Stingrays! The stingrays loved me because of my skin color, who woulda thought? I think they thought I was going to feed them.

Met some local girls and we took a ferry to the north side of the island to check out KOKO King. They had a pool, a DJ, a water trampoline and so many floaties.

Last lobster dinner grilled by the porch.

I made the mistake of waiting until the last morning to eat a Fry Jack. They’re only $3.50 and they are delicious!
